If there's one thing I've learned over the past six years of running The Lady's Slip, it's that growth doesn't always come from doing more on your own. Sometimes, the most exciting opportunities come from working together.
On Saturday May 23rd, we packed my car full of bras, fitting essentials, and more than a few nerves, for an extremely early start when we headed to Cahir for our very first Bra Fairies on Tour event, in collaboration with Klassy Lady Boutique.
To say we were apprehensive would be an understatement.
The week leading up to the event felt like a masterclass in small business anxiety. There were late deliveries, missing deliveries, concerns about whether we'd have enough stock, and of course, that familiar fear that every business owner knows all too well: what if nobody turns up?
As it turned out, we needn't have worried.
The response was beyond anything we could have hoped for. Customers travelled from near and far, the queue grew, and the atmosphere throughout the day was incredible.
But what struck me most wasn't simply the number of people who came through the door.
It was the power of collaboration.
Bringing the Bra Fairies Beyond Tramore
At The Lady's Slip, we've always believed that bra fitting is about much more than finding a bra. It's about confidence. It's about comfort. It's about education. Most importantly, it's about the personal touch.
While our online business continues to grow and allows us to help customers all over Ireland, there is still something very special about "the chat", listening to people's concerns, understanding their needs, and helping them find the right fit.
For many people, travelling to Tramore isn't always practical. By partnering with another independent retailer, we were able to bring that experience closer to customers who may never have visited our shop otherwise.
The event reminded us that accessibility doesn't always mean digital. Sometimes it means physically bringing your expertise to people where they are.
Small Businesses Are Better Together
Independent retail can sometimes feel lonely. We spend so much time focusing on our own businesses that we forget how powerful collaboration can be.
Working alongside Klassy Lady Boutique wasn't simply about sharing a space. It was about combining strengths, sharing audiences, supporting one another, and creating something that really resonated with both sets of customers.
The feedback we received throughout the day reinforced what we've always known: customers value authentic experiences. They appreciate expertise. They appreciate personal service. And they love seeing local businesses supporting each other.
In a world that increasingly pushes customers towards faceless online transactions, there is something incredibly powerful about creating real connections.
More Than Just Bras
One of the highlights of the day was meeting people we'd spoken to online for months or even years.
Many customers arrived feeling like they already knew us through social media, and it was wonderful to finally put faces to names. There were chats, laughs, hugs, stories shared, and plenty of moments that reminded us exactly why we started this business in the first place.
The Lady's Slip has never been solely about lingerie. It's about helping people feel comfortable in their own skin. It's about challenging misconceptions around bra fitting. It's about making customers feel welcome, supported, and understood.
Seeing that same philosophy resonate outside our own four walls was incredibly rewarding.
Is This the Future?
As we drove home, exhausted but delighted, one thought kept coming back to me.
Maybe collaboration will be a huge part of the future growth of The Lady's Slip.
Not because we're looking to open more stores or become a large chain, but because there is enormous value in bringing our expertise to different communities and partnering with like-minded businesses who share our commitment to customer experience.
The success of our first Bra Fairies on Tour event has shown us what's possible when businesses work together rather than compete.
And if Cahir was anything to go by, I have a feeling this is only the beginning.
To everyone who attended, supported us online, shared our posts, recommended us to friends, or cheered us on from afar, thank you.
You helped make our first Bra Fairies on Tour event something truly special.
And to Klassy Lady Boutique, thank you for taking a chance on the idea and helping us create a day we'll never forget.
Here's to many more adventures ahead.
