This is where you begin…

Did you know that bras will vary according to brand, shape and even colour?

In The Lady's Slip, we don't use measuring tapes, as our trained eyes will be able to fit you by sight (Yes, it's a gift!). However, we understand that not everyone will be able to visit us here in Tramore for a fitting. So, we've created a solution to get you started: a bra calculator! As we know, over 80% of women are wearing the wrong size bra, so by using our calculator. You can start your journey to getting your perfect bra in two easy steps.

For the 1st step, use a soft measuring tape to get the measurement (in inches) of your underbust. This is where your bra band will sit, so make sure that the tape is in a straight line around your body, and take a snug measurement (don't hold your breath or pull too tight).

Wearing your best fitting bra (not padded), your second measurement will be around the fullest part of your breast (again, no breath holding, and don't pull the tape too tight, don't squash the girls). Put this measurement into box two, and calculate.

Find Your Bra Size

The calculator will give you a recommended size, then, it's the fun part -browse through our extensive range and take your pick!

When you receive your bra, use our 6 Step Bra Fit Formula to check the fit.

Still not sure if it's working for you? Don't worry, we will even offer an online fit check to make sure you get the perfect bra with the perfect fit, every time.

Because every woman deserves the perfect fit!

Here at the Lady’s Slip we’re on a mission to ensure that every woman finds and wears the perfect fitting bra.
In fact, we believe every woman deserves this and we’re making it our business to educate women on how to know if their bra is fitting them correctly.

We’ve been working hard behind the scenes and we’re thrilled to share with you our magic bra fitting formula. We’ve called it Our 6S BFF – that’s our 6 Step Bra Fit Formula. Enjoy!

6 Step Bra Fit Formula

Click on each step to learn more about achieving the perfect bra fit:
1

SWOOP & SCOOP

Breast tissue should be swooped forward from under the arms, & scooped upwards to fit fully into the cup, above & in front of the underwire.

6

STRAPS

Straps shouldn't carry the weight of your breasts. They should neither dig in or fail down.

2

SMOOTH

The cup should have no gaps, puckering, spillage or "double boob"

5

SNUG

The band should fit firmly around the body & not move around. (This is where 80% of your support comes from).

3

SITS

The centre gore should sit flat against the breast bone.

4

STRAIGHT

The band should be level front & back anchor & NOT rise up your back.

All you need to know about bras and bra fitting (but were afraid to ask)

We understand that coming for a bra-fitting can be a daunting prospect, but please don’t worry. We will do our very best to ensure that you feel safe and comfortable. You will be brought into our fitting rooms, where you will be fitted a wearing your current bra (and don’t worry – we don’t care what it looks like). We fit by eye, we don’t use a measuring tape, so it will be a hands-off approach until we need to adjust your new bra.

We will bring you the bras that will suit your shape, size and of course your needs and preferences. You will never be rushed; we want to ensure that you are completely happy before you buy.

You should aim to get fitted every 6 – 12 months. Weight fluctuation and hormones mean that our breasts can change rapidly, so getting the right fit will ensure maximum support and comfort.
A good quality bra will last 6 – 12 months. BUT - The lifespan of your bra will depend on a few things. Obviously the better you look after it, the longer it will last. Handwashing your bras is important as it will keep the elasticity and integrity. If you have a few bras that you are wearing in rotation, your bras will last longer, as they will have “rest days” Don’t forget that your bra can be doing some “heavy lifting”, so it won’t last forever. If your (previously comfortable) bra starts to feel uncomfortable, this can be a sign that it is time for it to retire!
Unfortunately, no! Bra sizes can vary with brand, style, material and even colour. This is why we don’t use a measuring tape instore, our motto is “it’s not about the size, it’s always about the fit.” If you use our 6S BFF as a guide, you will be able to get the perfect fit every time.
Your bras should be washed every few wears. It is really important to handwash your bras. This will preserve the integrity and elasticity of the bra and therefore extending the lifespan. We recommend Soak which is a rinse free wash, ideal for underwear. A washing machine, even on a gentle cycle can twist your bra, and cause damage to the wires (and if they pop out and get stuck in your machine – that’s a whole other disaster!) Do NOT use a tumble drier, the heat will cause damage to your bras. Hang your bra by the centre gore, or lay flat to dry, don’t hang by the straps or the band as the bra can stretch unevenly.
We absolutely do stock non-wired bras, but we often find that when a customer thinks that they cannot wear an underwired bra, it is because they have been wearing the wrong size. If a bra is the wrong size, the wire will generally be sitting in the wrong place, which will pinch, chafe, dig in, etc. Often by getting the right size and shape you will realise that an underwire is not the enemy and will usually offer more definition and support.
Check or 6 Step Bra Fit Formula to see how to tell if you bra is fitting.
If you are planning to do sports, it is a really good idea to invest in a sports bra. A sports bra will offer extra support, so will help to reduce breast movement and prevent discomfort and possible damage to your breast tissue. Most sports bras will have breathable and/or moisture wicking materials, and the technology that is used to design them will help to prevent injury It’s important to note that a sports bra is NOT a light bralette, a piece of lycra with a sports symbol does not make something a sports bra.
There is no exact age when a girl should get fitted, as every person develops differently. Look out for signs instead,
  • The breast tissue is beginning to form, or “bud”
  • Your daughter is starting to express interest in getting a bra, or is starting to get a bit uncomfortable
  • If she is playing sports and needs extra support
Getting fitted for a bra is a daunting prospect at any age, but we are only too aware that it can be even more so during those formative pre-teen/teen years, so please be aware that we will be incredibly sensitive this. Getting a young girl used to bra-fittings and knowing the signs of a proper fitting bra is a great gift which will last the, a lifetime.
We stock bras from an A cup, but please be aware that many people are surprised when they get fitted as they are far away from the size they originally thought they were!
There is no correct answer to this question as it will vary from person to person. For some people they will need to get fitted very early on as their breasts may have increased in size, and a bra that is too small will feel very uncomfortable, especially if the breasts are tender, so it’s important to listen to your body Some people will continue to increase in breast size throughout pregnancy, while others might not grow until the last few weeks. It’s a good idea to come and get fitted for a maternity bra at about week 36.
